I always say I don’t want anyone to pay me unless and until they are happy with the personal speech I write for them. Of course this exposes me to the risk that someone will say they are not happy with my speechwriting in order to avoid paying for it. Recently I was asked to write a speech for a speaker at a big awards ceremony, and was surprised and disappointed to be told that my speech didn’t meet expectations and wouldn’t therefore be used. Fortunately someone suggested that it might be on YouTube. It was, my speech was virtually unchanged and the speaker was given a standing ovation from the very large audience. I emailed my congratulations to my client and received payment very quickly!
