After a number of years of marriage I didn't think my qualities as a husband were being fully recognised by my wife, so I bought a small trophy and had it engraved 'Guy Faber - Husband of the Year 1991'. It still has pride of place on the window-sill in my study, where I can look at it with a warm glow of pride - though in the interests of balance I think I should say that my wife keeps reminding me that I have failed to retain it for a single one of the last 32 years!
