I wrote a speech for a Colombian father-of-the bride whose daughter married a young German. In the early days of their relationship there were a few clues that suggested they were keen on each other - for example when the daughter told her parents she was having German lessons. But what impressed her father (a keen football fan) most was when the boyfriend came to stay with them for the first time and turned up in a football club T-shirt. Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund you might think - but no, this young man had taken the trouble via eBay to buy a T-shirt with America de Cali on it - a relatively obscure local club supported by the father. He was delighted and when in due course the young German asked him for his consent to marry his daughter it was an immediate 'si'!
